Here's How Much The Nintendo Switch Costs In Canada
Nintendo held their very first Nintendo Switch Presentation event last night. Here's what Nintendo's newest console costs in Canada.
Last night was an eye-opening time for Nintendo fans. In Japan, even the stuffiest of Nintendo executives hammed up their presentation of the Nintendo Switch, revealing the March 3 worldwide release date and the $299 USD price tag.
The Nintendo Switch will be coming to Canada, as well, but Nintendo of Japan didn't go too far into launch details for the Great White North. Thankfully, Nintendo of Canada has your back, as they have sent out a press release that reveals what the Nintendo Switch will cost at launch in Canadian dollars.
Unfortunately, there's no getting around the exchange rate between Canadian and US dollars, as the Nintendo Switch console will cost $399 CAD. That will get you the Nintendo Switch tablet device, the docking station, Joy-Con (L) and Joy-Con (R) controllers, a Joy-Con grip, a set of Joy-Con wrist straps, an HDMI cable, and an AC adapter. Two versions of the console will be available at launch; one with a set of gray Joy-Con controllers, the other with one neon blue and one neon red Joy-Con.
When it comes to extra accessories and controllers, that Canadian exchange rate is especially killer. An extra set of Joy-Con controllers costs $100 CAD, either the L or the R Joy Con on its own is $65 CAD, a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller costs $90 CAD, and the Joy Con charging grip costs $40. If you want to play with a friend or a proper controller at launch, you will need to pay as much or close to the price of what Canadians paid for the Xbox One at launch. Back when the dollar was better.
No matter where you're from, some of these accessories and controllers make it cost a lot to play with friends at launch. Unless you're locally playing with others wirelessly (up to eight consoles at once), that cuts heavily into the cost of paying for games at launch, making the Nintendo Switch that much harder on Canadians when it releases on March 3, 2017.
